April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball athletes who earned medals during more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join the team in Tokyo. Ross wants to achieve more than her initial Olympic medal. In fact, at 39, it could be her final chance to achieve it. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. Ross through NBC Boston, said that if the team plays very well, or even at all, they could win a gold. Additionally, I'm going put my faith in a touch of luck. Ross, who was born 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began playing the sports of Newport Harbor High School. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball as well as basketball as well as track and running. However, she was a standout in this sport. As a college volleyball season as per her college profile, she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. She was awarded by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross is currently playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017. However, Ross's beach game was established well before the year. The fact is, she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments and one of them was a volleyball superstar. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 together. They went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she announced her retirement. The team won bronze in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college years after she graduated in high school. The Trojans had a great run for Ross at the university. In 2000, as a freshman she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was also an All-American. Also, she was a key player in helping the Trojans make it to the Final Four. She was devastated by a tragic incident in her second year, but she was able to make it an All-American once more. The two years following her she led the Trojans up the mountain and won consecutive national titles. Her individual achievements have cemented her place as a legendary volleyball player. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the opportunity to see her daughter grow into the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. She continues to hold her lost parent near and close. In addition, Margie remains a source of inspiration to her on the beach as well as in everyday her daily life.
